Buddy Bahun: Missionary in Namibia for 10 years
In this month’s Missionary Highlight, meet Buddy Bahun, a missionary in Namibia for 10 years. Buddy has a heart for the church and works to develop and encourage the local church in its ministry, while serving as a pastor in the region.
About Buddy Bahun:
I have been a part of Apex since 2001 and have been a missionary to Namibia now for 10 years. It’s kind of hard to believe it has really been that long. In 2007 I got married to my bride, Julia. We now have three kids: Grace, Liam and Faith. When I first approached the Elders at Apex that I wanted to go to Namibia long term, I never could have seen the amazing way God would grow me and lead me in the mission here. I came to Namibia thinking I was just going to work with AIDS patients and play with some kids, but God had a totally better plan. As I was here in Namibia, I saw the great need and call for the local churches in ministry.
Pretty much every organization seemed to be struggling here, yet had very little involvement in the local churches. Over some time the Lord really taught me of the value for the local body of believers and the call he has given them in their own country. So the mission since then has really been to strengthen and encourage the local church to fulfill the ministry they are called to.
I am working with a local church called Grace Reformed Baptist Church. I am serving as one of three ordained pastors and am involved in young adult ministry. One area that we are working with the church is its mission strategy and focus. The church has two current church plants and we are hoping to see a new work start next year in the Katima portion of the country. This would be a pioneer work as there are no evangelical churches that we know of there.
Pray for Buddy:
Please pray for wisdom as I, along with my fellow elders shepherd the church here. Please pray that God would continue to provide the needed funds for us and the ministry. Pray for our mission and the needs provided. And please pray that we find a more stable housing situation here.
We would love to hear from you! You can contact us via email at email@example.com
Message for Apex:
I would encourage you! What role in missions have you been called to serve in? That’s right! I am saying that all of Apex is called to serve in mission. The question is... what role? Romans 10:14-15 has been a theme verse for us for many years. “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”. Some will be called like me to go, but some will be called to send. Notice verse 15, “And how are they to preach unless they are sent?." Some go...Some send! Where will you serve in missions?
