Col. 3:12-15  Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

An Open Letter to the Body of Christ within Apex

Your brothers, the Elders of Apex, want to bring you an update on where God has brought us and where we envision Him leading us as we enter the second half of 2019.

We continue to see the Spirit of the living God touching hearts, transforming lives, and clarifying for all of us  what it looks like to walk in and by his Spirit. We are seeing more and more members of the Apex family stepping out into the mission of His call... to make new disciples who are making new disciples.

Recently, the Kettering Elders and their wives spent the weekend on retreat, seeking the Lord together and hearing from him. We were pleased to have Mike and Sally join us, as we set aside space and time to listen to the Spirit, encourage one another, and discern Jesus’ next steps for Apex. Jesus is the head of this body, and He indeed met with us as we retreated. All of our hearts were encouraged and strengthened in Him, and we pray that same encouragement and strength for each of you as well.

For months now, as we endeavor to hear and obey what the Spirit is saying, we have continued to see great evidence that the Spirit of God is moving in the midst of Apex!

During this same period, the Lord has shown us, as Elders, several ways in which we could better shepherd  Apex. A few weeks ago, we met with our staff to seek ways to better serve this wonderful team and solicit their input and prayerful support as we strive to move forward with clearer communication, increased partnership and humbleness of heart.  We are thankful for their on-going sacrifice and willingness to serve this body well. As Elders, we are excited to be serving with them and for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matt 6:10).

Our next step of obedience is to humbly come before you, our brothers and sisters, and recommit our desire to serve alongside you in unity, openness and love.  Moving forward it is our desire to:

  1. Communicate across the body in a more frequent manner.  Instead of unintended “pockets of communication” our desire is to have more frequent and open communication.  We desire to more intentionally seek feedback across the various ministries of the Apex network. If at anytime you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your Regional Elder.  We will work to respond to you as quickly as possible. Past failures in these areas have led to a spirit of gossip, criticism and judgement among this body of believers. This has not honored our Lord, nor enabled us to serve each other well.  We, therefore seek your forgiveness for any manner our action - or inaction may have added to this negative outcome.

  2. Over the last several years, we do not feel, as Elders, we have effectively shepherded our House Church Leaders nor been engaged with various staff members as we feel called to do.  We covet your prayers as we begin seeking additional Elders to assist in the Lord’s call of making new disciples who are making new disciples (2 Tim 2:2). As always, we welcome your questions and feedback in this regard.

  3. As believers we share the same faith, the same calling and the same Savior who is Lord of all.   As Elders, we have been slow in addressing a divisive spirit which has prevented this body to move forward in a unified manner across the network.  This has contributed to fractured relationships within our family. Where possible we are working to seek forgiveness, heal those relationships, and encourage a deeper sense of transparency and trust wherever possible.  In this regard we will work to facilitate a better understanding of the roles of Elders, staff, various support teams and House Churches and fully embrace the various ways we can work together to build the kingdom across the greater Dayton area and among unreached people groups across the globe (Rom 12:5).

For these things, we have asked the Lord to strengthen us for His glory and seek your forgiveness.  His redemptive power is at work in us. (Phil 1:6). We remain encouraged with how the Lord has worked among the body of Apex and are excited about the things the Lord is doing and will continue to do in our midst.

We are blessed to be able to serve with you in a  spirit of unity, collaboration, and love which is deeply rooted in the love of the Father, the truth of the living Word that is Jesus, and the power of the Spirit.  As God ushers Apex though the final stages of transition we rejoice in His protection, provision and promise which enables us to participate in the work He is already doing all in our midst.

As Elders, please know we sincerely covet your prayers and are encouraged by your dependence upon our Lord.  We love you and look forward to the blessings the Lord has for us as we radically commit our lives to the lordship of Jesus Christ.

In His Service,

The Elders of Apex
